Dry freight specialist Uptons Transport Services has taken delivery of its first trailer from Schmitz Cargobull – a new S.CS FIXED ROOF curtainsider semi-trailer, featuring the manufacturer’s robust yet light weight modular design providing optimum payload.

The S.CS FIXED ROOF – which is now being manufactured at Schmitz Cargobull’s Manchester factory and complies with DIN EN 12642 Code XL load security regulations – has been purchased outright and joins a fleet of 10 trailers supplied by a competitor, plus two DAF and two Renault tractor units.

Director of Uptons Transport Services, Phil Upton, says: “I am very impressed with the build quality and I’m delighted to have one on my fleet. I have felt very supported by the team who have kept me informed with everything throughout the entire process.”

The semi-trailer has been built on the manufacturer’s high-tech modular chassis, providing greater strength with well-distributed load and optimised weight. Its modular bolt-on, bolt-off design means the S.CS FIXED ROOF is easy to repair if necessary. It also offers excellent corrosion protection and is provided with a 10-year warranty against rust-through.

With two sliding posts and 18 buckles, the curtainsider allows for simple loading and unloading and the steel wires incorporated into the curtain prevent intentional cutting, offering built-in anti-theft protection and added security. For driver comfort, the new semi-trailer also features a water tank, providing fresh water for the driver when needed.

The curtainsider has been bought to replace a like-for-like semi-trailer from a rival marque and will be in operation for up to six days a week, clocking up 160,000km per annum. Based at the firm’s depot in Birmingham, it is expected to remain in service for 10 years, delivering dry freight for businesses, such as The Range, across the UK.

Phil Upton founded Uptons Transport Services in 1977. It now delivers refrigerated and dry freight goods to UK supermarkets, as well as transporting ISO containers.
